Ruta por las Comarcas 1

Ruta por las Comarcas

On this route we will discover the 4 regions that make up the Tierras del Ebro and its diversity of landscapes and environments. We start by leaving Tortosa, the Baix Ebre region, to go along the Ebro river, surrounded by orange trees, towards the Terra Alta region. Shortly after passing the Azud de Xerta, a step in the river from where the two channels that provide water to the delta rice fields start, we leave the river bank to enter a mountain landscape that will take us to the region of La Terra High. After the Pinell de Brai, famous for its modernist winery, the cherry orchards will be our company until we reach Miravet, with its Templar castle. From here, along a flat road, we arrive at Mora d'Ebre to cross the Ebro river and connect with the 'Eix de l'Ebre' (C-12) that will take us winding between fields of fruit trees, through the region of La Ribera d'Ebre, towards Rasquera, the gateway to the Sierra de Cardó, the 'Baix Ebre' region. We leave the C-12 and head towards the sea, on our way we will find a wind farm and when we arrive in La Perelló, a town famous for honey, we cross the N-340, and along a winding low mountain road, clearly Mediterranean , with olive trees, kermes oak, pitas and pines, we will arrive at l'Ampolla. This road gives us access to the different coves, so appreciated to take a good bath. From here, the landscape changes radically, we enter the Ebro delta. With an area of more than 320 km2, completely flat, we are going to look for the Pont del Passador, the last bridge over the Ebro. As soon as we cross it, we will access to the Montsià region. This section of the route takes us across the entire delta, approaching the sea and the largest lagoons in the delta, La Tancada and La Encanyissada. We will enjoy the views of the bay of the Alfacs, the Sierra del Montsià and the dels Ports. On our way it will be easy to observe a multitude of birds, some seasonal, others present all year round, that inhabit the delta, a paradise for birdwatching. We approach La Ràpita, one of the main fishing ports in Catalonia and from here to Amposta, the capital of Montsià, from where we will connect again with the C-12 that will take us back to Tortosa. On the way, we will pass by the Torre de la Carrova, a medieval tower from the 14th century, which controlled river traffic.
